The New York Times reported the other day on the growing use of virtual worlds by young children, who are getting engaged in record numbers on sites like webkinz.com, Club Penguin (A Disney site that looks like Habbo), Pixie Hollow (another Disney site), and Nicktropolis (a Nickelodeon virtual world).

It's really starting to take shape - but I don't want to write about the specifics until I have a conversation or two with the specialists I'm trying to recruit to help me pull it all together. I'm working on a series of topics for a course this spring -- a syllabus, for an eight-week evening class. The course is for artists and cultural organizations, to teach them technical skills that will help them market themselves better and reach new audiences.
